How did you attract/address your audience? /Looking back at the preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Looking back at the preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product? (carried on)

At the beginning of this project I created this school magazine as my preliminary task, although it followed the conventions of a magazine as it had a headmaster, barcode and pictures it wasn’t the best of magazines. As I gradually got introduced to A Level standard analysis of magazines and technology use I learnt that constructing a magazine had more to it than just placing content on a page. I feel that you have to plan carefully and then construct gradually now as before I didn’t think that so much effort had to be put into just placing a masthead, puff and images. During these couple months I’ve been focusing on music magazines and I’ve learnt that structure is key when portraying and creating a magazine with a genre. In my preliminary magazine you can see that I’ve just placed bold pieces of text in such rigid places whereas now I’ve learnt that where you cluster and position images, colour and text (content) can either ruin your magazine overall of make it very effective. I learnt the importance of editing, to create something professional looking then a lot of precise editing should be taken place in order to create something individualistic and not something which already exists. Constructing is all about having a theme in mind, i learnt that looking at themes which already exists for your genre of magazine will help you see what features should be used to create individualism
As you can identify in my before/after image of my music magazine front cover you can clearly see how the use of theme to create a much more effective cover, before it was dull and just clustered with solid blocks of text, this meant that it didn't have the professional dime. After learning how to compare with existing magazines i identified features which were effective to create something more individualistic, in this case the colour theme was much suitable for the black solid background as the colour red bounces smoothly off the colour black. The development from my preliminary task also involved the costume I used, setting, editing skills and representation. This is due to me understanding more about these features gradually whereas my knowledge at the beginning was fairly basic in terms of how these features could be effective. Costume wise I learnt that it could manipulate the representation trying to be portrayed, in my preliminary task the costume was designed to create the representation of a college student through the use of a classy suit whereas in my final product the model is wearing all black to represent sexual appeal and dark ‘naughty side’ of that social group of females. Editing is also a key development and you start to understand that depending on who you’re targeting your product for the editing type changes. The better quality editing would be targeted at a much more serious audience type which take the appearance of a product seriously, therefore more time and effort would be put into that stage of creating the product.

WHO WOULD BE YOUR AUDIENCE FOR YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT?

I have created a mood board to show visually what type of target audience I've intended to attract with my product. My product is a Soul/R&B music magazine intentionally aimed at a teenage audience, my final age bracket that I've personally intended if for due to my results from my survey is 16-18 year old however would also attract anyone above that bracket. My magazine is a unisex magazine as this genre of music has been enjoyed by both sexes, most soul R&B artists are male and female so it’s suitable for everyone which enjoys that type of music. My mood board is representing a youth culture of current society, modern teenagers are very experimental, shown clearly on the mood board is images of weed, alcohol and sexual pleasure. This ties with the representations and stereotypes of R&B music and the bad connotation which are socially constructed. I have also added couple current artists within that genre of music to show what type of people my audience might idolise, within these current artists are Jhene Aiko, Drake, Miguel, The Weeknd.

What have you learned about technologies from the process of conducting this product?
